Welcome to Murtesa

Authentic flavours. Warm hospitality. Unforgettable moments.

Murtesa brings authentic Ethiopian and East African flavours to Eastleigh, Nairobi. Every dish is prepared the traditional way — slow-simmered stews, carefully blended spices and fresh ingredients that carry the depth Ethiopian cooking is known for.

Ethiopian hospitality sits at the centre of everything we do. Whether it's a family dinner, a long table of friends, or a quiet meal on your own, food here is meant to be shared — served on one plate, enjoyed together.

Our injera is made in our own kitchen — including brown teff injera — and it is the base of almost everything we serve. Alongside Ethiopian classics we also serve traditional breakfast dishes such as sufi fitfit and shiro, marqa and firfir.

Come for the food, stay for the atmosphere: live music, big games on screen and a room on 10th Street that stays open around the clock, every day of the week.

Ethiopian Culture

A Taste of Ethiopian Tradition

An Ethiopian meal begins with injera — a soft, tangy flatbread that doubles as both plate and cutlery. Stews and vegetables are arranged across it, and everyone eats from the same shared platter.

Flavour comes from spice blends built over generations: berbere, mitmita and niter kibbeh, layered slowly into every pot. And no meal is truly finished until coffee is poured — roasted, brewed and served from the jebena.

Above all, Ethiopian dining is about hospitality and community. Guests are welcomed generously, and the table is where people come together.
